Once you have reviewed all of the transactions in your inbox and you have reviewed the schedule, you're ready to post your journals.

You can either click the name of the month in the schedule that you wish to post the journal for, or you can click the View Journals button in the top right corner of the schedule:

to open up the postings window:

Here you have a couple of options to choose from:

  1. Whether you want to post the journal as Draft or Posted

  2. Whether you want to post the journal grouped by Nominal or Transaction

If you post the journal as draft, you will need to head to your accounting file to finalise the posting. You can do this by following the deep-link which will appear when you click the Post button or by searching for it in your accounting file.

If you post the journal as posted, there is no further action required.

Posting the journal grouped by nominal will post a single line to that nominal with a value equal to the cumulative figure for all transactions being posted to that nominal.

Posting the journal grouped by transaction will post a line per transaction so you have a much more granular description within the journal.

Once you have made your selections, Mayday will remember your preference for the next posting.

The final decision to make is the posting date of the journal. It will default to the final day of the period but you can choose to update it to any date in the past or future, and the schedule will calculate an adjustment line for any journals posted outside of the period to which they relate. For more information see this article on How the adjustment line works

Once you have selected the correct date, simply click the Post button and your journal will be posted in to your accounting file! The month will turn green to show it is in sync with your accounting system and a deep link with a date and time stamp will be generated which will take you straight to the journal.

If you need to update a journal for any reason, this is also a very simple process and more details on doing this can be found here.
